Does Insurance Cover the InvisiVein Laser Treatment?
When performed for medical reasons, insurance companies will cover varicose vein treatment. In order for the InvisiVein procedure to be considered medically necessary, the patient must demonstrate symptomatic venous reflux disease. Symptoms of this disease include:
- Pain, swelling, leg cramps, ulcers, and/or bleeding from varicosities
- Presence of reflux on ultrasound scan
Once the patient has exhibited some or all of these symptoms, a period of conservative varicose vein therapy, such as a 3 to 6 month trial using compression hose, is required by the insurance carrier prior to covering your InvisiVein treatment. If symptoms persist, your insurance carriers will then cover the InvisiVein procedure.
It is important to note that when varicose or spider veins are treated for the exclusive purpose of improving the patient’s appearance, it is considered cosmetic surgery and is typically not covered by the patient’s health insurance or Medicare.
All InvisiVein procedures are performed as medical necessities – as diagnosed by a trained vein specialist – and are covered to the extent of the patient’s health coverage policy. The successful treatment of venous reflux with the InvisiVein procedure frequently produces significant cosmetic improvements.
