Spider Vein Treatment
Spider veins are small, red, blue or purple veins just beneath the skin’s surface and can develop on any part of the body, including the thighs, calves and ankles. They are generally smaller and less painful than varicose veins, but can be just as bothersome and unsightly.
How does InvisiVein treat spider veins (telangectasias)?
Unlike varicose veins, spider veins are considered a cosmetic rather than a medical disorder. For this reason, insurance does not cover treatment costs. Sclerotherapy is the primary treatment where the tiny surface veins are injected with FDA approved medication to inflame the veins and close them down. The procedure takes 15-30 minutes.
For many patients only one session is needed. This is variable based on the extent of involvement, response to therapy and patient desire. The occluded spider veins fade over the course of 8 weeks at which time reinjection can be considered. Compression stocking use for 10 days post injection is strongly recommended to obtain the best results.
We also recommend limiting sun exposure for one month post injection to decrease darkening of the treated areas.
